Turkish Bagel with Sesame Seeds Recipe

Turkish bagels, also known as'simit,' are a popular Turkish street food. They are denser and chewier than American bagels, with a slightly sweet flavor. Sesame seeds are sprinkled on top of these bagels, adding a nutty flavor and a crunchy texture. They go well with tea or coffee for breakfast or as a snack.

Instructions

  • Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Allow it to sit for 5 minutes, or until it foams.
  • Combine the salt and flour in a mixing bowl and stir until the dough comes together.
  • Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the bowl with a damp towel and set aside for 1 hour in a warm place to rise.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Make 12 equal pieces of dough and shape them into bagel rings.
  • To make an egg wash, whisk together the egg and water in a small bowl.
  • Brush the bagels with the egg wash and top with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
