Fresh Out of the Oven Bagels Recipe

These bagels are chewy and delicious right out of the oven. They're ideal for breakfast or a mid-day snack. Serve with your favourite cream cheese or just plain.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Mix in the warm water until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for ten minutes.
  • Form the dough into 8 equal parts and shape into balls.
  • Make a hole in the centre of each ball and stretch it to make a bagel shape.
  • Cover the bagels with a towel and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Allow for a 10-minute rest.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • A large pot of water should be brought to a boil.
  • Each bagel should be boiled for 1-2 minutes on each side.
  • To make an egg wash, whisk together the egg and water.
  • Brush each bagel with egg wash and, if desired, sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
