Sesame Seed Bagels Recipe

These Sesame Seed Bagels are soft, chewy, and bursting with sesame flavor. They are ideal for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Instructions

  • Warm water and yeast should be combined in a small bowl.
  • Allow to sit for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Stir in the yeast mixture and honey until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface, or until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased mixing bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set aside for 1 hour to rise.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a ball.
  • Make a hole in the centre of each ball with your thumb, then stretch the hole to form a bagel shape.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the egg white and 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Brush each bagel with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bagels should be baked for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Before serving, cool the bagels on a wire rack.
